There are several large flowers that are common to the Salt River Valley that are called Mexican Bird of Paradise or
Caesalpinia pulcherrima. This is one plant with a plethora of common names including: Poinciana, Peacock Flower, Red Bird of Paradise, Dwarf Poinciana, Pride of Barbados, and flamboyan-de-jardin. The Mexican Bird of Paradise (called the Red Bird of Paradise) is the national flower of Barbados. We have a huge colorful bush of these flowers growing every summer in our backyard.
