Hermit's Rest

This was not actually a place where any hermit rested. It is a store and Grand Canyon overlook at the top of Hermit's Trail. The building was constructed in 1914 and designed by Mary Jane Colter and is a National Historic Landmark. The "hermit" of the Grand Canyon was Louis Boucher, but the connection of a hermit was entirely fabricated to add commercial interest to the Fred Harvey Company and bring tourists to the Canyon.
