The old almost-ghost town of Jerome, Arizona sits on the side of Mingus Mountain facing the Verde Valley. It is a picturesque town with a thriving tourist business. With an economy entirely based on mining, it has gone through a boom-and-bust cycle more than once and survived. Its population in 2010 was 444. The road up to the town is very steep but has some spectacular views or a lot of cliffs depending on your viewpoint.
