Hermit's Rest
Hermit's Rest is a building on the west end of the Hermit Road on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. It is presently the end of the shuttlebus route from the Grand Canyon Village. There is a trail that descends into the Canyon from this point. The building was designed by Mary Jane Coulter and is on the National Register of Historic Places and is also a National Historic Landmark. The building was built for the Fred Harvey Company in 1914. The Fred Harvey Company operated restaurants and hotels in the National Parks as a concessionaire in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The building is presently a tourist information site and store.
