What It Looked Like

This is approximately what some of the State of Florida looked like at and before the time of the arrival of the Europeans. This is in the Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge and they have made an effort to eliminate all imported plants to restore the original vegetation. You have to ignore the horizon where it shows some development. There aren't really any huge tracts of natural vegetation left in Central and Northern Florida.
