A Pit House Excavation

The Montezuma's Castle National Monument has several ruins besides the main castle. The ruins date from several thousand years ago until quite recent. This is a Pit House excavation. I took a picture of the explanation so you could see what it looked like when people were living there. There are thousands of these remnant houses in the desert Southwest. Most are still unexcavated.
