I still remember reading the book by Thorton Wilder published in 1927 about the collapse of an Inka rope bridge. the book is called "
The Bridge of San Luis Rey." This is what that type of bridge looks like from an exhibit in the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian. I don't know if I would venture across such a bridge. His idea of the bridge was faulty, however, the ropes of these bridges are replaced every few years by the locals. He assumed they hadn't been maintained since the time of the Inka kings.
