The most foreign thing about my visit to Amsterdam was the tremendous number of boats, cars, and bicycles. Actually, the number of cars is decreasing in the Netherlands. There are some statistics that about one car a week falls into a canal. This statistic is balanced by the fact that between 12,000 and 15,000 bicycles are pulled out of the canals every year.
