Stories about hippopotamuses seem to indicate that they are one of the most dangerous animals on earth. This is hard to reconcile with the benign looking floating animals you see in zoos. They are very large and lovely in a weird sort of way. We don't have any of them running around in the deserts of Arizona, so no matter how dangerous they are, I am not too worried about being attacked.
