An Infinite Design

Maurits Cornelis Escher could have taken a lesson from the Hopi potters. They were already well into repetitive, infinitely recurring designs long before he was born in Leeuwarden, Netherlands in 1898. If you look carefully at this excellent example of the potter's art, you will notice that the designs are not exactly reproduced. It is this lack of precision that makes the art of the pot.
