Cuban Knight Anole

A knight anole or Anolis equestris is a species of lizard in the Polychrotidae family, and the largest species of anole. Being green is probably a result of living in Cuba where everything is green. Our local lizards are usually brown or gray and have markings that make them nearly invisible in the desert.

On Beyond Zebra

Patterns and light and shade, that is what makes up a good composition. There are a lot of copies of zebra hide out there in the world, but none of them is as random or well composed as an original zebra. I liked the way the sun reflected off the top of this animal's back. It gives you an idea that the zebra hide might be a lot more complicated than it seems at first look.

Lounging in the Sun

Alligators all around. They are the most inert animals I have ever seen. We came back by this group hours later and not one of them had moved. I do know they can run very fast and attack savagely, but they are mostly like looking at highly decorated logs.

Help, I'm being held captive in a zoo.

OK, some photos just need to be taken. They aren't great photographic masterpieces or artsy or anything, they just need to be. This is one of those photos.

Floating in Space and Time

When I take a photo such as this one, I am thinking more of composition than the relationship of the objects to space and time. But when I look at the photos, I immediately see the optical illusions that are created by the reflections and the lack of perspective. It looks like the two floating plant collections are suspended in space and that the edge of the water is really the air.

Taking a Rest

You don't usually see animals resting the way that we would, back against a wall and sitting almost cross legged. It was a hot and humid day and there was a threat of rain. I can't begin to imagine what this particular kangaroo was thinking about, but I am sure I felt about the same way with the heat and humidity.

Elephant Hide

If you look through my photographs, you will see that I am fascinated by color and texture. This image is no exception. It is the side of an elephant showing the texture and color of its hide. It is almost geographic in its form, with the creases that look like canyons and hills on a map.
