A Hard Life

Juniper trees seem to grow in some of the most difficult places on earth. Their wood is very hard and prized as fire wood. In some places in the Southwest, the juniper trees were considered an invasive plant (weed). To try to eliminate so many juniper trees, the ranchers used long chains dragged between two Caterpillar bulldozers. The practice created a lot of dead wood, but over time failed to have much effect on the juniper trees.
