Piñon Pine cones make piñon nuts or pine nuts, one of my favorite things. The nuts have been used for food by the native inhabitants of the Southwest for thousands of years and are a staple for squirrels and other small animals. As trees go, most piñons are rather small, but they are very common throughout the high country of Arizona.
